Gas sedation, also known as nitrous oxide sedation, is a method of sedation that involves the inhalation of nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) to help a patient relax during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative that has been used in dentistry for over 150 years.
During nitrous oxide sedation, the patient inhales a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small mask placed over their nose. Nitrous oxide works to relax the patient and reduce their anxiety, while oxygen helps to keep them alert and responsive.
The effects of nitrous oxide sedation are usually felt within a few minutes of inhaling the gas, and the patient will typically feel a sense of calm and well-being. The patient remains fully conscious and responsive to the dentist throughout the procedure. The effects of nitrous oxide sedation wear off quickly after the procedure, and the patient is able to drive home or return to normal activities immediately.

It's important to note that Nitrous oxide sedation is not intended to be used in cases of severe anxiety or phobia, in those cases a more advanced method of sedation such as oral sedation or IV sedation should be considered under the guidance of an anesthesiologist.
